Last Wednesday we attended the RJC event announcing Princess Anne as their new Patron. As a member of the RJC and keen supporter of the principles of Restorative Justice, we were impressed by HRH knowledge of this approach and her dedication to the cause. It was also great also to catch up with some colleagues in the field and make a few new contacts, especailly the Met Police’s new unit focusing on expanding officer’s knowledge and use of RJ in front-line policing.
We are keen to see what we would call a truly holistic, community-led model of RJ in this country where referrals are taken out of the court system and into a process of restoration, reconcilliation and restitution between victim and offender. We offer our ground-breaking model from South Africa, which recently recieved considerable EU expansion funding, as an example.
